Ski Trip January 1-6th

What a wonderful family trip we had! A great way to start the new year! Skiing in Utah. We left on New Year's Day and drove to Dallas and flew from DFW to Salt Lake City. We skied at Alta Wednesday and Thursday in almost perfect weather conditions. It actually got hot enough to shed some clothes on Wed. High 30's. Thursday was a bit cooler and high winds. One of the main lifts was closed down because of high winds. Tons of great snow. Alta has NO snowboards so that was wonderful! Not crowded at all either. School went back from them on January 2nd. The third day of skiing we went to Brighton. We had a choice of 4 different places up there and wanted to try something different. Brighton was way crowded and tons of snowboards. Some seem to have attitudes, cut in line and are always sitting down, buckling up in front of the lifts and such so we didn't like that part. We went over to the harder lift with only blue and black runs and that helped. It was SUPER windy all day. One main lift was closed all day. Very hard wind and it stopped the lift a few times just because it was so strong. Never got stuck up there long though. It wasn't that cold, but the wind would just blast you in the face with snow and ice pellets! But we were able to stay longer as they have night skiing and we were able to do that which is way different and not crowded. We did about 3 runs or so in the dark with the lights. Pretty neat. Saturday we went out to see the Great Salt Lake. Saw bison grazing, coyotes running across the frozen part of the lake. I scaed off a Jackrabbit that scared me too. Lots of Canadian Geese and other birds. Very cool to see it. Oh, we also saw a porcupine in the middle of a ski run! We also drove downtown and saw the Mormon Temple which is really pretty. It was a great trip!
