Last long run in preparation for my first Half Marathon

Today I ran at Rose Rudman park and surrounding neighboorhoods. It was about 2 p.m. when I started and pretty hot between 65-70 degrees and high humidity. I ran in the neighborhoods first 6 miles because there are more hills there which best simulates the race I will be doing next Sunday. I finished the full 13.2 miles in a time of 2:23 so at least now I know I can do the distance. That's a 10:55 pace. The last 3 miles kicked my butt. Definitely NOT negative splits. My legs really cramped up from running a hard 5K yesterday morning. But it's Sunday and the last chance to get in a long run. Man did I feel it afterwards and still now. So I plan to let my legs recover all week and go out and do my best next Sunday at the Dallas White Rock Marathon. I'm shooting for a 2:15 time in the actual race. That would put me about 45 in my age group alone based on 06 times! But I'll get a finishers medal no matter the time. I think I can do it because it should be cooler than today, my energy level will be higher as the race starts at 9 a.m. and I will have my legs strong, unlike today. There are the max of 15,000 runners doing the half, full marathon and relay marathon next weekend. My race number is 9,745. Timothy will be doing it too. His second. He hopes to beat his previous time of 1:45:47. If nothing else, it will be a amazing experience! I just hope I don't feel as bad after next weekend's race as I feel right now!

Very smart to rest your legs this upcoming week before your race, this is known as "tapering" and works well for most races. You're going to do great in your race!!
