My First Triathlon

It was so exciting this morning. I'm so pumped right now. I did my first triathlon. I had the alarm set for 5:30 a.m. but woke up wide awake at 4:30 ready to go. I waited an hour to wake up the guys. They had later nights than I did as they went to the football game last night which I skipped so I went to bed at a decent time. Got to the lake about 6:45, race was to start at 8:00 a.m. with transition area closing at 7:30. We had plenty of time. The water was chilly, 76 degrees, wetsuit legal but I didn't have one and didn't wear one. Cold at first but after the swim started you warmed up real fast. I did it!! a sprint triathlon with 650 meter swim, 14.5 mile bike ride and 3 mile run. And not only did I do it, I got FIRST place in my age division, 45-49, did the race in about 1:46:04 (splits 17 min swim, 2:25 Transition 1, 58:50 bike, .20 T2, 27:31 run). Timothy won 1st place in the 16-19 age group with a time of 1:21. Wahoo!! Even though the run was very hard after the swim and bike, (I thought I was going to lose my stomach!) this whole thing was way cool to do and I think I'm hooked. (The overall winner did it in 1:01 but he's ranked 7th in the nation so he was super fast!)

Oh and today is Jeremy's 20th birthday! And we are going to Gary's high school reunion tonight! I need to go rest beforehand.

Congrats on racing your very first triathlon AND winning first in your age division...you are a marvel to behold! Timothy was no slouch either. How do you find the time to train in THREE disciplines, I can barely find the time to run, not alone bike and swim too (I'm a slow and pokey swimmer, but can bike well). You inspire me, I should have a triathlon as a future long range goal.
